Two seasons

I have always lived somewhere where you do know the differences in the seasons..
But when you live in the north, although there is supposed to be four seasons
there are only

Two Seasons

Those two seasons are
Winter

And
Road Construction

and this year the road construction is right out my door...

NOT HAPPY...

First they brought their big machinery and dug up the road...

The house was vibrating...

This all happened last week but it does give the neighbors something to do
chatting and watching what is going on.
They did have to take some time out to pump out the water out of the ditches when it rained.

So now onto this week's work

All this construction is leading to very little sleep... and when you are a night shift worker, sleeping during the day is not a easy chore on any given day.  So needless to say that this summer or should I say road construction season, I am thinking I won't get too much sleep.  Right now they are working across the street and I still have some access to getting out of my yard.  I am not sure what will happen when and if they need to dig up our side of the street.  But we do get some compensation for all this.  MDOT is sending us sometime in the near future a cheque for $100.00 just so our taxes can go up.

Project 52 - Week 20 - Vintage

I don't seem to get any other pictures on this blog except the Project 52.
Hopefully I will get more taken now that spring has finally come here to the U.P.

Project 52 - Vintage

A couple of  months ago, I went and took some pictures of a friend's newborn little girl.  I had lots of fun doing it.  Although the baby isn't vintage.  I used an old suitcase and some pearls in the picture and when I edited the picture I did it in sepia so that it would look vintage.

Project 52 -Week 19 ~ Framed

Hope everyone has had a super week and your weekend is going great.
Cold and trying to snow here...
We woke up with a dusting of snow this morning and it has been snowing on and off all day.
The only good thing about snow at this time of year
is that it only stays on the ground for a few minutes.
This week's Project 52 theme is

Framed

I had many ideas of what I could do but as the weather isn't cooperating and it was too cold to go outside,
I decided to go through my pictures and I came up with this one.

This picture was taken last fall, on Brockway Mountain. Although I didn't get the complete circle, I love how the sun's ray was framing what I was taking.  This picture was taken with my point and shoot camera.

Project 52 Week 18 - Leaves

This week's theme for

Project 52 is Leaves

Now I could have gone out and taken pictures of leaves, that is if we had any kind of leaves on the trees.  As winter still is hanging out here in the U.P., leaves are far and few between.  As I was thinking of this theme, this saying kept coming to my mind.....

Turning a New Leaf

So keeping that in mind, here is my interpretation of this week's theme....

Project 52 Week 17 - Film

Project 52 - Film

This week's theme, yes I said this week's - I am finally on time again is film or film-like.  I wonder if the children growing up even know what film for a camera is.  Can you even buy a camera that uses film anymore and how easy is it to get your film developed.
Since the coming of digital cameras, it is harder and harder to buy film cameras and probably just as hard to get them developed.  The days where you shoot rolls and rolls of film to make sure you get that one great picture are long gone.  Now you can just delete the pictures that you don't like as you are taking them.  Also the days of taking your film in, waiting at least a couple of days, if not a week depending on where you went is a thing of the past.  Do you even develop you pictures anymore?  I so very seldom do.  I now share them through multi media.
When thinking of this theme I remembered my SLR camera and also my video camera, both take film.  I had thought that I had a roll of film lying around the house, but I must have gotten rid of it.

Here is my interpretation of film:

It does make me sad to think that these days are over, but like everything technology advances.
What do you think will be the next thing we will see in photography?

Project 52 - Old - Week 16

These week's theme is:

Project 52 ~ OLD

The first thing that I thought of when I heard of this week's theme was ME!  I thought of when I was getting married and the theme something new, something old, something blue.  When I got to the something old I thought that is easy ~ it's me.  But I didn't think you would like another picture of me :)...
So this is what I decided to go with....

The doily that the plates are on was made by my great grandmother.  My great aunt gave it to me as a wedding present as she knew that I would cherish something this precious.  I never knew my great grandmother but I remember my mom telling me stories about her.  This doily has a special place on my piano.
The dishes were given by a dear neighbor that lived kitty-corner to us as we were growing up.  She was "grandma" Jones to us even though she had many grandchildren of her own.  She gave me these plate or TV trays as she called them to me when I graduated from high school.  She told me that she had bought them when her eldest daughter was out of school which must be at least 50 years ago.  Grandma Jones passed away a few years after I graduated but I have these dishes to remember her by.

Project 52- Colourful Week 15

I am still a week behind but hopefully this week I will catch up.
Last week's theme was

Project 52 - Colourful

When I first heard the theme for last week's project 52 my mind went to Africa.  Colourful is the best way to describe their material and clothes.  I love all the colours that they use.
Bright, Bold and Beautiful.

They aren't afraid to wear colour.

different material that I have

One more picture.  As you can tell this picture wasn't taken by me but by a friend of my husband's friend with my camera.  The dress I am wearing was made by the material that my mother and father in law gave me as a wedding gift.

Head over to these other blogs to see what their interpretation of colourful is:
