Every year MTU ( Michigan Technological University) has winter carnival.
One of the things that are always done are snow/ice sculptures.
The weather also was perfect for it...
Enough snow had fallen prior to the event, wasn't too cold, but cold enough to keep them from thawing
And the most important weather condition
Two....yes, I said Two days of Sun to enjoy the sculptures.
Hubby as a student of MTU spent Wednesday night there helping to build one of the sculptures

Sunlit Sunday |
Marlys, you definitely had two beautiful days for this event. The sculptures remind me of the ones you can see in Ottawa during Winterlude. You have to love those hardy souls who go out in the cold to create such things!
ReplyDeleteCongratulation to your husband and his team for their win and thanks for bringing these icy sculptures to "Sunlit Sunday".
-Karen
It amazes me each year what they do and how they come up with sculptures to fit the theme.
DeleteLooks like a fun festival! The sculptures remind me of the one I've seen at the St. Paul Winter Carnival. I really like the ice chain. That would be hard to make. Congrats to your husband's team for winning the all nighter!
ReplyDeleteThe ice chain in my favorite too
DeleteOh what fun! My little grandson would love the Batman and truck. I can't imagine the time it takes to create these.
ReplyDeleteSome of them took a long time, especially the bigger sculptures.
DeleteWhat a fun event! I'm amazed at some of those sculptures, particularly the chain ones. Lots of talent there.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of talent, and I didn't realize what goes in to making them until this year when hubby was there helping.
DeleteLooks like a fun festival. I have little snow in my town. Your festival reminds me of the snow festival in Hokkaido;Northern Japan island.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day!
I am vising through Sunlit Sunday.

DeleteI really enjoyed seeing all the sculptures! That looks like a lot of work! I get pooped just making a snowman for Mary when it snows. lol
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of work making these and I know what you mean Elena ~ I am the same way. I can't even get a snowman done without being tired.
